NEW! Travel now available on Amtrak's Thruway Bus from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe (no train ticket required)

NEW - Amtrak Thruway Bus service serving Sacramento, Placerville and South Lake Tahoe now available without a train ticket!
 
Passengers may now purchase Amtrak Thruway Bus tickets serving Highway 50 stops between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe exclusively.  Thanks to a legal exemption to California law, travel in conjunction with a train is no longer required.  Many other routes in California do not allow Thruway travel unless passengers have a connecting train segment in their itinerary.
 
Eastbound from Sacramento - Passengers departing Sacramento and traveling to Placerville, South Lake Tahoe, or Stateline, Nevada may purchase tickets at the Sacramento Amtrak station. 
 
Westbound to Sacramento - Passengers boarding at unstaffed stations traveling to Sacramento will be allowed to travel to the Sacramento Amtrak station (without a ticket) provided they present a valid government issued photo ID to the driver upon boarding.  The ID will be returned to the passenger at the ticket office once their ticket is purchased.  Standard discounts for seniors, disabled and children are available.

Between Placerville and South Lake Tahoe - Since no ticket office is available at Placerville or South Lake Tahoe, local passengers may pay a cash fare directly to the driver when traveling solely between Placerville (PCV), South Lake Tahoe (SLT), Stateline (SLH) or Kingsbury (SLN).  Fares to and from Placerville are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children 2-15 years old.  No other discounts are available.
