Scotia (Rio Dell)

The Scotia (Rio Dell) stop is an unstaffed stop for Amtrak in Humboldt County, California. Neither tickets, baggage, nor package express shipments are handled at this location. Tickets may be purchased from an Amtrak travel agent, over the telephone from Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) or over the internet from Amtrak's home page, www.tickets.amtrak.com.

The station was moved from Rio Dell to Scotia in June, 1996. The stop is now located in front of the (now closed) Scotia Inn, Main and Mill Streets.

This area of Humboldt County is noted for its lumber. Indeed, when the Pacific Lumber Company built its first mill there in 1885, the community was known as "Forestville." Because so many of its towns folk were from Nova Scotia, Canada, the name "Scotia" was selected when the post office was established in 1888.
